 Local & Regional:
The only Real Issues are Local!                  Or are they?

We are surrounded by the relics of the past under-investment in our infrastructure- no matter where we live- no matter what field we are in.

Of course it is very important to hanker after improvements to our local amenities and quality of life.  Indeed it is vital to aspire to better things and times.  However the questions of Who-Why-What-Where-When and How Much, must be asked about The Make-It-Happen Programme.

As citizens, we have a shared responsibility towards where we live, play, get educated, set-up the family home, work and retire.    The majority of people feel this very strongly, despite many being constantly frustrated by their inability to have impact on the status quo.  Others give up before the start because they feel that their mission in life is to just survive from one crisis to another.  Then there is a few (elected and un-elected) who arrogantly proclaim that they know what's best for everyone and almost everything, and make their life's work the delivery of it.

It would be surprising to learn, that this is not a commonality throughout the world and it is unique to North Devon.                 However learning about something that's happening elsewhere can often help solve a   ' local difficulty '.   Are we taking our democrat right and responsibility seriously?  Do we need to take them out of the wardrobe more often?                              Should we leave them to continue to wither-on-the-hanger?

thendt Network will provide the platform to help deliver the message:-                              We should not continue to allow social re-engineering and the marginalisation  of some groups, without permission.  We also hope this will encourage more people to play an active part in community affairs.

National: Are we a gathering of disparate groups trying to create an identity beyond our own?   Does the government's national blandness give us any help as of to-day?

Whilst our reporters are finding out local views around the country, it appears that they have changed their minds about us all.                          Now Britain is a Great place.                               This statement emerged from a recent New Labour Party Conference.  Coupled with this is the idea that people should be given greater respect.

Who knows, we may even see the  return of The Royal Tournament.

Pity about the Nelson celebrations on TRAFALGAR DAY. Are you Red or Blue m'lord?  We the British fought and won the battle at great cost to the French and Spanish and ourselves. It should not be a celebration but more a reminder of a past moment in time.
