Hay Fred- are you with us?  The holidays are over!   She-who-must-be-obeyed has decided we have to earn our keep!  This has been an annual negotiation for over 10 years now.  So - I'm back to writing.  The Guv has changed our routine at last and it works.  We are not allowed to use the word 'hay'.   We must use 'haylage'- he buys it from some dude in Devon-  who supplies HM The Queen herself.  Fizz and I like it.  It smells very good and fills her up very well.  He is also giving us probiotic stuff in powder form and regular fresh water.  We have stopped having 'old hay' as some of the farmers were confusing old with rubbish full of all sorts of harmful bacteria and dust.  The jury is out on the question of when this year's hay should be eaten. ( If Fizz had her way- it's to-morrow!)   We even get out on the grass and (because we are feeling so much better now) we have a gallop up the field, kicking and bucking like ponies should.   It was fun while it lasted.  But seriously Fred, it is great to be free of that laminitis thing.  You remember when we couldn't wait to roll in the mud?

Yeah!  That was great Barney, but how are you going to earn your keep?  You would be no good at stud.   Are you going to send the mare out to work or what?   I noticed that Clara gets her head in the Fizz bucket and now lives with you both in the stable.  Has she given up the idea of being a sheep?   Can she bring in any money?

Ok Barney.  I must give the book a plug-                What Horses Say  by Julie Dicker & Anna Clemence Mews.  It was amazing how Julie could tell so much from a small bit of my mane sent in the post, when she had never met me!

Take care and have a nice day.  Talk soon.

Worldwide: Is the lack of fresh water and sanitation the real problem in Africa?

Of course not.  Not only Africa, but elsewhere the problems are similar, in that the under-privileged from the US to New Zealand and round and back are almost entirely excluded from the mainstream commercial and trade clubs.

Just been reminded by my partner who visited Wichita a few years ago, about her visit to a Christmas Grotto which was being run by former Red-Indians. They were charming people and she often wonders about them and hopes they are doing well.

STOP PRESS:  It must be said that the recent wave of natural disasters is almost beyond belief. Our prayers are offered on behalf of all who are suffering as a result of these tragic events.
It is doubly sad because many of the deaths and much of the suffering could have been avoided.

We can fly to the moon but we can't build a high enough wall or invest in an early warning system.

And they will continue.....  as I write.. Ours prayers are with you all.      Ed.
